In a momentous ceremony held on December 1, 2023, President Droupadi Murmu conferred the esteemed President’s Colour upon the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune. Simultaneously, she virtually inaugurated the Armed Forces Centre for Computational Medicine, ‘Prajna,’ marking a significant stride in the integration of advanced technology with medical services.
During her address, President Murmu commended AFMC for establishing itself as an institution synonymous with the highest standards in medical education. She acknowledged the graduates of AFMC for their exemplary service, showcasing dedication in the face of various challenges, including war, counter-insurgency operations, natural calamities, and pandemics, both within and beyond national borders.
The President expressed her satisfaction at the noteworthy contributions of female cadets from AFMC who have played pivotal roles in armed forces medical services, holding esteemed positions. Encouraging more women to pursue careers in the armed forces, she hoped that these trailblazers would inspire the next generation of women to contribute to the field.
“Addressing the evolving landscape of medical technology, President Murmu emphasized the significance of incorporating Artificial Intelligence, Precision Medicine, 3D printing, telemedicine, and other cutting-edge technologies. She highlighted the crucial role played by the Armed Forces Medical Services in maintaining the optimal health of soldiers, ensuring their readiness for battle. The President urged AFMC to prioritize research in medicine and leverage the latest technologies to uphold the highest standards of medical treatment for all personnel across the three services”.
