President Droupadi Murmu Mourns the Passing of Veteran Leader Damodar Rout

President Droupadi Murmu has conveyed her heartfelt condolences on the passing of veteran leader Damodar Rout, who served as a minister multiple times in the Odisha Government. She expressed deep sorrow at the loss of a stalwart figure whose contributions to the development of Odisha and the nation will be cherished and remembered.

Damodar Rout, affectionately known as Dama Babu, breathed his last at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar early on Friday at the age of 81. His demise followed a cardiac arrest on March 18, after which he had been undergoing treatment at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Throughout his illustrious political career, Damodar Rout left an indelible mark on Odisha’s political landscape. He closely collaborated with former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik, serving as the Panchayati Raj Minister. His association with Biju Janata Dal (BJD) since its inception in 1997 further solidified his influence in Odisha’s political sphere.

Damodar Rout’s tenure as a minister under the leadership of Naveen Patnaik, spanning from 2000 onwards, saw his dedicated service in various key departments including health, panchayatiraj, cooperation, agriculture, culture, and excise. His commitment to public service and tireless efforts to uplift the state earned him widespread respect and admiration.

As Odisha mourns the loss of one of its eminent leaders, President Droupadi Murmu extends her sympathies to Damodar Rout’s bereaved family members and followers.
