New Delhi, May 10, 2024: The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, delivered a poignant address at the 22nd convocation of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), emphasizing the pivotal role of timely healthcare in saving lives.
Highlighting the significance of the golden hour in medical emergencies, President Murmu underscored that prompt treatment during this critical period could significantly enhance patient outcomes. She urged specialist doctors to exhibit sensitivity towards emergency patients, advocating against redirecting them elsewhere for treatment.
Quoting the adage “justice delayed is justice denied,” President Murmu emphasized the urgency in the healthcare sector, stressing that delayed treatment could equate to denied lives. Citing instances where timely intervention could have prevented tragic outcomes, she lamented the plight of patients whose health deteriorated due to treatment delays, particularly affecting paralysis patients.
Expressing appreciation for the longstanding contributions of NBEMS to medical education, President Murmu lauded the organization’s efforts in augmenting the availability of specialist doctors across the nation. She urged doctors to prioritize prompt, sensitive, and affordable healthcare, encouraging them to volunteer their services to impoverished patients as a noble contribution to society.
Recognizing the need for a continual increase in the availability of doctors to cater to India’s vast population, President Murmu emphasized the importance of maintaining both quality and quantity in healthcare services. She commended Indian doctors for their global reputation and credited India’s emergence as a medical tourism hub to its affordable healthcare services.
Addressing the commendable achievement of female medical students outnumbering their male counterparts at the convocation, President Murmu hailed it as a significant milestone for Indian society. She praised the resilience and excellence displayed by female students in overcoming societal constraints and contributing to the advancement of the nation.
