President Murmu Advocates Women’s Empowerment in Meghalaya Interaction

Meghalaya: In a significant event at Baljek Airport, Tura, Meghalaya, President Droupadi Murmu engaged with members of Self Help Groups, stressing the indispensable role of women in India’s progress. The interaction, which took place on January 16, 2024, also saw the virtual laying of the foundation stone for the new Integrated Administration Complex in Tura.

President Murmu highlighted the essential nature of empowering women across various domains, including social, economic, political, and spiritual realms. She expressed that for India to achieve its vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047, it is imperative to focus on the comprehensive empowerment of women. The President commended the significant contributions of Indian women in diverse fields, ranging from defense, science and technology, sports, education, and entrepreneurship, to agriculture.

Acknowledging the achievements of women, President Murmu emphasized that a few words of encouragement and small actions of support can go a long way. She underscored the importance of creating an environment where women have the freedom to make choices. Economic independence, she noted, has played a pivotal role in instilling greater self-confidence in women.

President Murmu also shed light on the Government of India’s commitment to actively involve women in the socio-economic development of the country. While recognizing the steps taken to enhance women’s participation in the workforce, she acknowledged that there is still a considerable journey ahead in the direction of women’s empowerment. She urged individuals to recognize and support the values and qualities of the women in their lives.

“Encouraging members of Self Help Groups, President Murmu urged them to not only progress individually but also extend support to other women. She emphasized that the journey of empowerment is not solitary but shared by countless women in the country who have yet to explore opportunities beyond their homes. The President urged the SHG members to become inspirations for others in their region and the nation, fostering a collective movement toward women’s empowerment”.
