The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, graced the national launch of the ‘Spiritual Empowerment for a Clean and Healthy Society’ initiative organized by the Brahma Kumaris in New Delhi on May 27, 2024. This significant event underscores the pivotal role of spiritual values in fostering holistic well-being and societal harmony.
In her address, President Murmu emphasized that the golden chapters of world history and the history of nations have always been rooted in spiritual values. She highlighted that ignoring spiritual values and solely pursuing material progress has historically led to disastrous outcomes. True holistic well-being, according to the President, is achievable only when physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions are in harmony. She asserted that individuals embodying these dimensions contribute to a healthier society, nation, and global community.
President Murmu stressed that spiritual empowerment is the essence of true empowerment. When adherents of any religion or sect stray from spirituality, they become susceptible to fanaticism and unhealthy mental states. Spiritual values, she noted, serve as a bridge connecting people of diverse religious backgrounds.
Highlighting the social impact of spirituality, President Murmu stated that working for public welfare, beyond personal selfishness, is a societal manifestation of inner spirituality. She identified public charity as one of the foremost spiritual values.
Addressing contemporary global challenges, the President acknowledged that forces promoting fear, terror, and war are active in many parts of the world. In this context, she praised the Brahma Kumaris for providing an effective platform for human empowerment through their numerous centers across more than 100 countries. This effort, she noted, is invaluable in promoting universal brotherhood by fostering spiritual values.
President Murmu also expressed her appreciation for the Brahma Kumaris Institution, possibly the world’s largest spiritual organization led by women. She acknowledged the unique dynamic where Brahma Kumaris lead from the front, supported by Brahma Kumars working in the background. This harmonious collaboration, she said, exemplifies spiritual progress and women empowerment, presenting an inspiring model to the global community.
The launch of this initiative marks a significant step in promoting spiritual empowerment as a foundation for a clean and healthy society, highlighting the vital role of spiritual values in achieving true societal well-being and universal harmony.
