President Droupadi Murmu engaged in a momentous interaction with members of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) at Rashtrapati Bhavan on June 12, 2023.

The President urged PVTG members to prioritize education and highlighted special provisions made for them, such as reserved seats in Eklavya Model Residential Schools and the National Fellowship and Overseas Scholarship Scheme. Education was identified as a powerful tool for empowering PVTG youth.

Emphasizing the importance of gender equality, the President encouraged PVTG women to take advantage of various schemes, including the Tribal Women Empowerment Scheme. The aim is to provide them with opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Government Initiatives: Tribal Sub-Plan and PVTG Development Mission
President Murmu highlighted the Tribal Sub-Plan, wherein 41 Ministries and Departments of the Government of India allocate a portion of their budgets for the welfare of tribal communities, including PVTGs. President expressed contentment with the initiation of the ‘Pradhan Mantri PVTG Development Mission’ aimed at advancing the development of PVTGs.
Sickle Cell Anemia Eradication Campaign: A Pivotal Step
The President acknowledged the government’s campaign to eradicate Sickle Cell Anemia by 2047, recognizing its significance in addressing the healthcare needs of tribal communities. This initiative aims to improve the health and well-being of PVTGs and ensure a healthier future for all.
Recognizing Tribal Talent: Padma Awards and Contributions
President Murmu praised the acknowledgment of talented individuals from tribal communities through the esteemed Padma Awards. She encouraged all tribal people, including the 28 lakh members of PVTGs, to develop their talents and contribute to society and the nation.
