President of India, Droupadi Murmu to Embark on a Vibrant Visit to Meghalaya and Assam

In a significant diplomatic and cultural outreach, the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, is scheduled for a dynamic three-day visit to Meghalaya and Assam from January 15 to 17, 2024. The itinerary is packed with meaningful engagements and ceremonies, showcasing the diverse fabric of these northeastern states.

On January 15, the President will kick off the visit by inaugurating the Meghalaya Games at the PA Sangma Stadium in Tura, setting the stage for a celebration of sportsmanship and unity.

Moving forward, on January 16, a series of events are planned. The President will address members of Self-Help Groups at Baljek Airport, Tura, underlining the importance of community empowerment. She will also virtually lay the foundation stone for the new Integrated Administration Complex, a symbol of progress for the region.

Later in the day, a visit to Mawphlang awaits, where the President will address a gathering. As a testament to infrastructural development, she will virtually inaugurate the upgraded Rongjeng Mangsang Adokgre Road and Mairang Ranigodown Azra Road. The foundation stones for the Shillong Peak Ropeway and tourist accommodations in the villages of Kongthong, Mawlyngot, and Kudengrim will also be laid, marking a significant step towards enhancing tourism.

The day concludes with a civic reception at the Raj Bhavan in Shillong, hosted by the Government of Meghalaya, honoring the President’s visit and fostering camaraderie.

On January 17, the President will be part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the Karbi Youth Festival at Taralangso, Diphu, Assam. This marks a special occasion to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the region, reinforcing the spirit of unity and diversity.

The President’s visit stands as a symbol of strengthening ties, promoting regional development, and embracing the cultural tapestry that makes Meghalaya and Assam truly unique.
