The nation bid farewell to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh with an emotional ceremony at Nigambodh Ghat in Delhi. President Droupadi Murmu laid a wreath on his mortal remains during the funeral, conducted with Full State Honours.
Distinguished dignitaries from India and abroad, including Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, gathered to pay their last respects.
Dr. Singh’s final journey commenced from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters at 9:30 am, where party leaders and workers offered their tributes. Bhutan’s King, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, also attended, reflecting the deep international respect Dr. Singh garnered during his tenure.
A statesman par excellence, Dr. Manmohan Singh served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. Known for pioneering economic reforms, his contributions as Finance Minister under Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao in 1991 laid the foundation for India’s economic liberalization.
Dr. Singh passed away at AIIMS Delhi at 92, succumbing to age-related health issues. His legacy as a visionary leader who balanced economic growth with humility and integrity continues to inspire the nation. The solemn ceremony marked the end of an era, as citizens and leaders alike mourned the loss of one of India’s most respected figures.
