President expressed her condolences on the passing of Surendra Nath Naik

President Droupadi Murmu expressed her condolences on the passing of Surendra Nath Naik, a stalwart of Odisha politics known for his unwavering commitment to public service. Naik, a former minister and senior BJD leader, passed away at his residence in Odisha’s capital, succumbing to age-related ailments.

Naik’s political journey spanned decades, marked by seven consecutive terms as a member of the Odisha Assembly from the Kakatpur constituency. He served in various capacities in the state government, including as Minister of Excise, Revenue, Agriculture, School and Mass Education, and Panchayati Raj. His tenure was characterized by a dedication to the welfare and development of Odisha, a sentiment echoed by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Deputy Chief Ministers K V Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, who paid tribute to Naik in the state assembly.

Chief Minister Majhi lamented the loss, describing Naik as a towering leader whose absence will be deeply felt. Deputy Chief Minister Singh Deo remembered Naik as a true leader and praised his enduring contributions to the Kakatpur community.
