President Condemns Terrorist Attack in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir

President Droupadi Murmu denounced the terrorist attack on an Army convoy in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir, calling it a “cowardly act” deserving of condemnation and firm counter-measures. She extended her sympathies to the families of the brave soldiers who lost their lives and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Details of the Terrorist Attack

Following recent counter-insurgency operations in Kulgam and Chinigham, terrorists attacked an Indian Army convoy in the Machedi area of Kathua district. The assault resulted in the deaths of five Army personnel and injuries to six others. The Jammu and Kashmir Police have launched a massive search operation in response.

Defence Officials’ Response

Defense officials reported that the troops retaliated after being fired upon by terrorists. The affected area falls under the 9th Corps of the Indian Army, and more details are awaited as the operation continues.

Impact on Hizbul-Mujahideen

In related news, Brigadier Prithviraj Chauhan, Commander 1sec RR, announced that the killing of six terrorists in South Kashmir dealt a significant blow to Hizbul-Mujahideen. One Army personnel, Prabhakar Praveen, sacrificed his life during the Chinigham operation. An IED weighing approximately 6 kg was also found and destroyed to prevent collateral damage.
