President to Honor 75 Outstanding Teachers in 2023 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi

The esteemed President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu is set to bestow the prestigious National Teachers’ Award 2023 upon 75 distinguished awardees on the 5th of September 2023 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. This significant date holds a special place in India’s calendar as it marks the birth anniversary of the renowned Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, celebrated nationwide as National Teachers’ Day.

The National Teachers’ Award serves as a tribute to the invaluable contributions of educators across the country. It recognizes and applauds those exceptional teachers who, through their unwavering commitment and dedication, have not only elevated the quality of education but have also profoundly enriched the lives of their students.

Each recipient of this prestigious award is bestowed with a certificate of merit, a cash prize of Rs. 50,000, and a distinguished silver medal. Additionally, these outstanding educators will have the unique privilege of engaging in an interactive session with the Hon’ble Prime Minister.

Traditionally organized by the Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, a grand national-level event is held on Teachers’ Day each year to confer the National Awards upon the most exceptional teachers in the country. This selection process is characterized by its rigor and transparency.

In an exciting development this year, the scope of the National Teachers’ Award has been broadened to encompass teachers from the Department of Higher Education and the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship. In total, 50 School Teachers, along with 13 teachers from the realm of Higher Education and another 12 from the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, will be honored.

To encourage innovation in teaching, research, community engagement, and the creation of groundbreaking educational practices, nominations were actively sought through online channels to ensure maximum participation, embracing the spirit of Jan Bhagidari (public involvement). The esteemed Shiksha Mantri constituted three separate Independent National Juries, each comprised of eminent individuals, entrusted with the vital task of selecting these deserving educators.
