Delhi: In a heartening display of cultural unity, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi partook in the Pongal celebrations at the residence of Union Minister Shri L Murugan in New Delhi today. Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister conveyed warm wishes for the auspicious occasion and reflected on the festive fervor resonating from every home in Tamil Nadu.
Expressing his joy at recognizing familiar faces, Prime Minister Modi recalled meeting many of the attendees during Tamil Puthandu celebrations last year. Thanking Union Minister Shri L Murugan for the invitation, he likened the celebration to being with family and friends, underscoring the importance of such moments in fostering a sense of community.
In his address, Prime Minister Modi quoted the great saint Thiruvalluvar, emphasizing the pivotal role of educated citizens, honest businessmen, and a thriving agricultural sector in the nation-building process. He noted that during Pongal, the fresh crop is offered to god, putting the spotlight on ‘Annadata Kisans’ and emphasizing the rural, crop, and farmer connection inherent in every Indian festival.
“Reflecting on the traditions of drawing Kolam during Pongal celebrations, the Prime Minister highlighted the significance of this artistic practice. He drew parallels between the diversity seen in India and the intricate design of Kolam, stating that when every corner of the country emotionally connects, the nation’s strength takes on a new form”.
Prime Minister Modi drew attention to the unity showcased in the traditions of Kashi-Tamil Sangamam and Saurashtra-Tamil Sangamam, where people from the Tamil community actively participate. Stressing the importance of this unity, he envisioned it as the driving force to build a developed India by 2047. The Prime Minister concluded by urging citizens to rededicate themselves to strengthening the unity of the nation on the auspicious occasion of Pongal.
