Meteorological conditions in the Bay of Bengal are set to undergo a significant transformation as a Low-Pressure Area takes shape, influenced by an upper air cyclonic circulation over the Andaman-Nicobar Islands and adjoining areas of the Andaman Sea & Southeast Bay of Bengal. This weather system, extending up to upper tropospheric levels and tilting southwestwards with height, is expected to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a Depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal around November 16, 2023.

Impacts on Andaman & Nicobar Islands

In the immediate future, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall at most places on November 14, with isolated heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Anticipate a continuation of comparable circumstances throughout the upcoming five days, signaling an extended duration of heightened precipitation and atmospheric dynamics within the area.

Coastal Regions Affected

Coastal regions, encompassing Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, and Rayalaseema, are anticipated to experience scattered to moderate rainfall across numerous locations between November 14 and 15. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are also anticipated during this period, gradually reducing over the following two days. Additionally, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over specific regions, emphasizing the need for heightened preparedness.

Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha

On November 15, coastal districts of Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha can expect light to moderate rainfall at a few places, with isolated heavy rainfall over coastal areas. The upcoming surge in intensity, slated for November 16, underscores the crucial need to stay vigilant and keep abreast of local weather updates throughout this period.

Northeastern Regions

Moving to the northeastern regions, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura are projected to experience light to moderate rainfall at many places on November 17, with isolated heavy rainfall over Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. On November 17-18, heavy rainfall is anticipated over south Assam & east Meghalaya, necessitating attention to potential flood risks.
