Rajnath Singh Announced First-ever Cash Incentives for Armed Forces’ Sporting Achievements

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has sanctioned a significant financial incentive for the Armed Forces personnel who achieved remarkable success at the 19th Asian Games and 4th Asian Para Games held in Hangzhou, China, during September-October 2023. This move aims to recognize and appreciate the outstanding performance of these athletes on the international stage.

Under this incentive scheme, Gold medal winners at both the Asian Games and Asian Para Games will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh each, while Silver medalists will receive Rs 15 lakh each, and Bronze medalists will be granted Rs 10 lakh each.

The decision to provide these cash rewards comes as a gesture of acknowledgment and encouragement for the exemplary achievements of several Service athletes who brought pride to the nation through their stellar performances at the Games. Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh personally felicitated these athletes upon their return, commending them for their dedication and remarkable accomplishments.

A total of 45 medal winners, including seven Para athletes, have been approved for these cash rewards. Among them, 09 Gold, 18 Silver, and 17 Bronze medals were secured in the Asian Games, while 01 Gold, 04 Silver, and 02 Bronze medals were clinched in the Asian Para Games.

This initiative by the Ministry of Defence marks the first time such a financial incentive has been extended to Armed Forces personnel, reflecting the government’s commitment to supporting and motivating athletes associated with the military. The aim is to inspire these athletes to strive for even greater success at upcoming qualifying events, particularly the Paris Olympics Games 2024, for which they are currently undergoing rigorous preparations.

The announcement of these cash rewards underscores the government’s recognition of the hard work, dedication, and talent of the Armed Forces personnel who compete at the highest levels of international sports. It is hoped that this financial support will serve as a catalyst for continued excellence and inspire future generations of athletes within the military to aim for sporting glory on the global stage.
