On December 10, 2023, Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh inaugurated a monumental 10-foot tall statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Darshan near Rajghat, Delhi. Describing it as a fitting tribute to the Father of the Nation, Singh highlighted Gandhi’s pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle and his dedication to uplifting marginalized sections. The event underscores the government’s commitment to Gandhian principles and its focus on inclusive development.

In his address, Rajnath Singh emphasized that Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals continue to shape India’s trajectory, inspiring leaders globally. He noted that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s governance aligns with Gandhiji’s vision, evident in schemes like Jan Dhan Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, and Swachh Bharat.

The Raksha Mantri paid homage to revolutionaries like Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, emphasizing their role in shaping the government’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.’ He highlighted the government’s commitment to planned progress, contributing to India becoming the world’s 5th largest economy.

Shri Rajnath Singh stressed Gandhiji’s economic philosophy, quoting, ‘The world has enough for everyone’s need, but not enough for everyone’s greed.’ He reiterated the government’s focus on empowering marginalized sections, citing their growing presence in various sectors.

Underlining the significance of women’s empowerment, Singh emphasized the transformative journey from labeling women as ‘Abla’ (weak) to recognizing and celebrating ‘Nari Shakti’ (women’s power). He cited legislative measures, including the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, as steps towards ensuring political rights for women.

Rajnath Singh acknowledged the need for a new vocabulary that defines the aspirations of marginalized sections, reflecting the changing narrative. He highlighted the government’s dedication to serving the people with honesty and dedication, seeing it as a true tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and a commitment to taking the country to greater heights.
