Raksha Bandhan 2024: History, and Muhurat Timing

Raksha Bandhan 2024: Raksha Bandhan, also known as the festival of Rakhi, is an annual celebration that highlights the beautiful bond between brothers and sisters. Falling in the month of Shravan, this year’s Raksha Bandhan is observed on August 19. The festival is marked by sisters tying a sacred thread, or rakhi, around their brothers’ wrists, praying for their health and prosperity. The ritual is accompanied by applying tilaks, exchanging sweets, and sharing gifts.

Raksha Bandhan 2024: Muhurat Time

The Raksha Bandhan 2024 Muhurat begins at 1:30 pm and continues for seven hours and 48 minutes, ending at 9:08 pm on August 19. It is advised to tie the rakhi after the Bhadra period ends at 1:30 pm.

History of Raksha Bandhan

Raksha Bandhan, translating to “safety” and “bond,” honors the special relationship between siblings. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna promised to protect Draupadi after she tied a cloth around his bleeding finger, an act that symbolized their deep bond. This promise was fulfilled during Draupadi’s Chirharan, where Krishna protected her from humiliation.
