New Delhi, October 1, 2023: In a resolute effort to promote cleanliness and hygiene, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh spearheaded a special cleanliness program titled ‘Ek Taarikh, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’ today at the premises of the Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA) in Delhi Cantt. This event marked a significant milestone in the ongoing ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa’ campaign, which is aligned with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Clean India’ and pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s dream.
The cleanliness initiative, organized by CGDA, witnessed the active participation of over 20,000 officers and staff of the Defence Accounts Department, spanning more than 1,100 offices and residential colonies across the nation. The campaign, which commenced on September 15, 2023, is set to culminate on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2, 2023, and has already witnessed an array of community-driven shramdaan activities.
Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh led the shramdaan activities, which encompassed a comprehensive cleanliness drive, beautification of communal areas, and a plantation drive. He personally engaged with the Safai Karamcharis (sanitation workers), commending their tireless efforts in maintaining cleanliness within the premises. Shri Rajnath Singh encouraged and motivated them to persist in their dedicated service and uphold the ideals of the ‘Clean India’ movement.
In a show of solidarity, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Financial Adviser (Defence Service) Smt. Rasika Chaube, and CGDA Shri SG Dastidar also actively participated in various cleanliness activities during the event.
Furthermore, Shri Rajnath Singh held discussions with Principal Controllers and Controllers of Defence Accounts responsible for managing the offices of PCDA (Army) Jammu, PCDA (Air Force) Dehradun, PCDA (Army) Jaipur, PCDA (Pensions) Prayagraj, CDA (Army) Meerut, CDA Guwahati, CDA Jabalpur, CDA (Regional Training Centre) Bengaluru, and CDA Chennai. These interactions aimed to review the progress of the ‘Swachhta Hi Sewa’ campaign within their respective jurisdictions.
The ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa’ campaign, rooted in the principles of community participation and social responsibility, has seen a groundswell of support from all corners of the country. In addition to CGDA, various establishments under the Ministry of Defence, Services, and related organizations have launched similar cleanliness drives as part of this nationwide movement.
