Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh embarked on a significant journey to Siachen, the world’s highest battlefield, on April 22, 2024. This visit aimed to evaluate the security situation firsthand and boost the morale of soldiers deployed in extreme conditions.
Accompanied by Chief of the Army Staff General Manoj Pande, Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar, and Lieutenant General Rashim Bali, Raksha Mantri conducted aerial reconnaissance before landing at a forward post at an altitude of 15,100 feet. There, he received detailed briefings on operational readiness and discussed challenges with ground commanders.
Addressing the soldiers, Rajnath Singh commended their valour and determination in safeguarding the nation, even in harsh conditions. He expressed gratitude for their sacrifices, ensuring every citizen’s safety. “Our soldiers’ bravery in the icy cold glacier will be remembered with pride,” Singh said.
Describing Siachen as a symbol of India’s sovereignty, Rajnath Singh compared it to the nation’s capital cities, stating it represents courage, grit, and determination. He commemorated Operation Meghdoot’s 40th anniversary, terming it a golden chapter in military history.
At the Siachen War Memorial, Rajnath Singh laid a wreath in tribute to fallen soldiers. This visit, initially postponed due to adverse weather conditions, fulfilled his promise to soldiers during his Holi celebration visit to Leh on March 24, 2024.
Rajnath Singh’s visit to Siachen not only boosted soldier morale but also underscored the government’s commitment to India’s security and sovereignty.
