Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh has fallen victim to a recent Deepfake video trend, following in the footsteps of celebrities like Rashmika Mandanna and Aamir Khan. The viral video depicts Singh endorsing a political party, created using artificial intelligence (AI). Such incidents are on the rise amidst ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
Singh, who recently visited Varanasi for a fashion show with Kriti Sanon and Manish Malhotra, found himself embroiled in controversy when a fabricated interview surfaced, seemingly portraying him in support of a political party. While the video appeared authentic, the audio was manipulated using an AI-enabled voice clone of the actor.
The actor’s official spokesperson has confirmed that Singh lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against the viral video, forwarding the issue to the Cyber Cell for investigation. The spokesperson affirmed, “Yes, we’ve filed a police complaint, and an FIR has been registered against the account circulating the AI-generated Deepfake video of Mr. Ranveer Singh.”
Singh also took to Twitter to address the incident, highlighting the severity of the situation and the need to combat such fraudulent activities.
