Renowned Hindi Poet Hariram Dwivedi Passed Away at 88: PM Modi expressed grief

Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned the passing of Pandit Hariram Dwivedi, fondly referred to as Hari Bhaiya, a luminary in the realm of Hindi literature. In a heartfelt message, PM Modi expressed his sadness at the demise of the revered poet, acknowledging his significant contributions to the world of letters.

Hariram Dwivedi, born on March 12, 1936, in Sherwan village, was not only a prolific poet but also a recipient of the Sahitya Bhushan Award from the Uttar Pradesh Hindi Institute in 2005. His educational journey took him from village primary school to Kashi Hindu University, shaping the foundation of his illustrious literary career.

Famed for his interest in folk music, Hariram Dwivedi gained popularity as a radio artist in Akashvani Radio Allahabad in 1958, subsequently serving in Rampur and Gorakhpur. His rich association with All India Radio spanned almost thirty years, culminating in his retirement in March 1994.

Post-retirement, Hariram Dwivedi continued his literary pursuits and resided at Ajmatgarh Palace, Motijheel, Varanasi. His passion for writing extended to various genres, earning him accolades such as the Rahul Sankrityan Award, Hindi Sahitya Saraswat Samman, and the Purbia Gaurav Samman, among others.

Hariram Dwivedi’s literary legacy includes over a dozen Hindi children’s literature works and fourteen Hindi and Bhojpuri songs. Notably, his compositions, including ‘Nadiyan Gail Dubray,’ ‘Anganaiya,’ and ‘Jeevandayini Ganga,’ resonated with readers and listeners alike, showcasing the breadth of his creative prowess.

Despite his achievements, Hariram Dwivedi’s dream of receiving the Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan remained unrealized. His sons, Rajesh Dwivedi and Arun Dwivedi, revealed that preparations for the honors were underway at the government level when he passed away.

Hariram Dwivedi’s impact extended beyond literature, reaching audiences in Andaman Nicobar, and Kolkata, where he spread the beauty of his poetry through All India Radio. His expertise in various folk song genres, from Kajri to Phaag, demonstrated his versatility and cultural richness.
