Sarhul Festival: President Murmu Extends Warm Wishes

Sarhul Festival: In her message, President Murmu extends heartfelt greetings to all citizens as they celebrate the sacred festival of Sarhul. Symbolizing the commencement of the New Year, Sarhul holds deep cultural significance in the Indian state of Jharkhand.

Sarhul spans three days, from the 3rd day of Chaitra month in Sukla Paksh to Chaitra Purnima. During this festival, the village priest, known as Pahan, performs rituals and offerings in Sarna to honor the Sun, village deity, and ancestors, seeking blessings for the prosperity of the village.

Central to the festivities is the worship of the holy sarna tree, where locals offer sacrifices of flowers, fruits, vermilion, roosters, and liquor. Following the rituals, vibrant dances are performed, with participants holding flowers from the sal tree.

The tradition of Sarhul also symbolizes the sacred union between the Earth and the Sun, embodying themes of harmony and renewal. It holds special significance for communities such as the Kurukh, Sadan, Bhumijs, Mundas, Ho, and Santals, known by various names like Khaddi, Hadi Bonga, and Baha parab among different ethnic groups.

President Murmu emphasizes the importance of environmental protection and unity, urging citizens to work together for the welfare of humanity. Sarhul serves as a reminder of the interconnectedness between nature, culture, and community, fostering a spirit of love, respect, and harmony for all.
