In a stark revelation, the Central Water Commission’s official flood forecast has sounded the alarm for Bihar’s Bhagalpur district, as the River Ganga at Sultanganj continues to surge in a severe situation. The situation is cause for immediate concern as the river’s water levels have escalated significantly, surpassing its danger level.
As per the latest report, the River Ganga at Sultanganj is currently flowing at a height of 34.88 meters, maintaining a steady trend. This elevation places the river at a distressing 0.38 meters above its danger level, which stands at 34.5 meters. Moreover, the water level is a significant 1.87 meters higher than normal, amplifying the severity of the flood situation.
“The situation calls for prompt and effective response mechanisms to safeguard both life and property. The local authorities and relevant agencies are likely to be on high alert to address the potential repercussions of this elevated water level. Flood control measures, evacuation plans, and relief efforts might be underway to mitigate the impact of the escalating flood situation”.
Bihar, a state prone to seasonal flooding due to its network of rivers and monsoon patterns, is all too familiar with the challenges posed by such incidents. With the River Ganga’s water levels breaching the danger mark, residents in vulnerable areas are advised to exercise caution and adhere to official instructions.
