IMD Issues Warning of Severe Heatwave Across Northern India

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heatwave to severe heatwave conditions across several states in northern India. According to IMD’s forecast for 27th and 28th May 2024, many parts of Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi are expected to experience severe heatwave conditions. Additionally, few parts of West Uttar Pradesh will also be affected.

The forecast further indicates that heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in isolated pockets of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha during the specified period.

As temperatures soar, it is crucial for residents in the affected regions to take necessary precautions to mitigate the effects of extreme heat. Staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activities during peak hours, and seeking shelter in shaded or air-conditioned areas are recommended measures to prevent heat-related illnesses.

Authorities are advised to implement appropriate measures to ensure the well-being of vulnerable populations, including the elderly, children, and individuals engaged in outdoor labor. Adequate provision of drinking water and access to cooling centers can help alleviate the impact of the heat wave on communities.

The IMD’s warning serves as a timely reminder for residents and authorities to remain vigilant and prepared for the challenging weather conditions ahead. By taking proactive measures and staying informed, individuals can minimize the adverse effects of the impending heatwave and safeguard their health and well-being.
