The Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) Gurugram Zonal Office has made a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the siphoning of homebuyers’ funds related to projects in Gurugram. Sikandar Singh Choker, son of MLA Dharam Singh Choker, was apprehended on April 30, 2024, after being on the run for four months. Choker’s arrest, made under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, sheds light on the alleged misappropriation of hundreds of crores of rupees by M/s Sai Aaina Farms Pvt Ltd and others.
The ED initiated its investigation based on multiple FIRs filed by the Gurugram Police against Dharam Singh Choker, Sikandar Singh Choker, M/s Sai Aaina Farms Pvt. Ltd., and associated concerns for cheating and forgery. M/s Sai Aaina Farms Pvt. Ltd. allegedly collected Rs. 363 crore from 1497 homebuyers under the affordable housing scheme, promising houses in Sector 68, Gurugram. However, the project was never delivered, and the funds were diverted to other entities associated with the Mahira Group, of which Sikandar Singh is a promoter and director/shareholder.
ED’s investigation revealed that the accused entities siphoned off homebuyers’ funds by falsely booking construction expenditures in group entities, diverting cash for personal gain. Additionally, funds were diverted as loans to other group entities, used for purchasing luxury cars, properties, jewelry, and other personal expenses.
Earlier searches conducted by ED yielded incriminating documents, leading to property attachments worth Rs. 36.5 crore. Despite multiple non-bailable arrest warrants issued against him, Sikandar Singh Choker remained absconding until his recent arrest.
He has been granted ED custody till May 6, 2024, by the Hon’ble Sessions Judge-cum-Special Judge (PMLA), Gurugram. Dharam Singh Choker has been directed by the Hon’ble Apex Court to join the ED investigation. Meanwhile, another accused, Vikas Choker, brother of Sikandar Singh, remains absconding, indicating further complexities in the case that the authorities are actively pursuing.
