Skipping Ambani Wedding, PM Modi to Dedicate ₹29,500 Crore Projects in Mumbai

Mumbai, July 13, 2024PM Modi is visiting Mumbai today to launch and dedicate several major infrastructure projects worth ₹29,500 crore, aimed at benefiting the people of Maharashtra. Due to this commitment, PM Modi will not attend the lavish wedding of Ambani’s son, though he is expected to extend his blessings to the newlywed couple during his visit.

PM Modi in Mumbai:

At around 5:30 PM, the PM Modi will arrive at the NESCO Exhibition Centre in Goregaon, Mumbai. Here, he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple projects related to the road, railways, and ports sectors, worth over ₹29,400 crore. These projects are designed to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and improve economic opportunities for the local population.

Key highlights of the projects include the Thane-Borivali Tunnel Project, worth ₹16,600 crore. This twin-tube tunnel, spanning 11.8 kilometers and passing below the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, will create a direct connection between the Western Express Highway at Borivali and Thane’s Ghodbunder Road. It is expected to reduce the journey from Thane to Borivali by 12 kilometers, saving approximately one hour of travel time.

Another significant project is the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) Tunnel, valued at over ₹6,300 crore. This project aims to establish a road link connecting the Western Express Highway at Goregaon with the Eastern Express Highway at Mulund. The 6.65-kilometer link will offer direct connectivity between Western suburbs and the new proposed airport at Navi Mumbai, as well as the Pune-Mumbai Expressway.

The PM will also lay the foundation stone for the Kalyan Yard Remodelling & the Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal at Turbhe in Navi Mumbai. The remodeling of Kalyan Yard will help segregate long-distance and suburban traffic, increasing the yard’s capacity to handle more trains, thus reducing congestion and improving efficiency. The new cargo terminal, spread over 32,600 square meters, will create additional employment opportunities and serve as an extra terminal for handling cement and other commodities.

In addition, PM Modi will dedicate new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and extend platforms 10 and 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Station. These enhancements will accommodate longer trains and increase passenger capacity.

The visit also includes the launch of the Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana, with an outlay of ₹5,600 crore. This transformative internship program aims to tackle youth unemployment by providing skill enhancement and industry exposure for individuals aged 18 to 30 years.

Finally, PM Modi will visit the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) Secretariat at Bandra Kurla Complex to inaugurate the INS Towers. This new building will cater to the modern and efficient office space needs of INS members and serve as a nerve center for the newspaper industry in Mumbai.
