In a significant announcement, South African opener Dean Elgar has revealed his decision to retire from international cricket following the Test series against India. The former Test captain, who has had a distinguished career spanning 12 years, will bid farewell after two crucial Test matches.
The first of the two Tests will take place at Dean Elgar’s home ground at SuperSport Park in Centurion, scheduled between December 26 and 30. The final Test of his international career will be at the iconic Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town, set to be held from January 3 to 7.
“Dean Elgar, 36, has been a stalwart for South Africa, representing the nation in 84 Tests and eight One-Day Internationals. Since making his debut in 2012 against Australia, the left-handed batsman has amassed over 5000 runs in Tests at an impressive average of 37.28”.
Sharing his feelings about stepping away from cricket, Dean Elgar expressed, “Engaging in the sport of cricket has forever been a dream of mine, but the chance to represent my country is the pinnacle! Having been privileged to do so for 12 years on the international stage is truly beyond what I could have ever imagined. This journey has been incredibly rewarding, and I consider myself fortunate to have experienced it.”

The Cape Town Test holds special significance for him, being his favorite stadium where he scored his first Test run against New Zealand and will now conclude his illustrious career”.
