Southwest Monsoon Advances: Heavy Rainfall and Heat Wave Alerts

The Northern Limit of Monsoon now passes through several regions, indicating favorable conditions for the advance of the Southwest Monsoon into central and southern parts of India. Over the next 2-3 days, the monsoon is expected to cover more areas including parts of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and the Northeast.

In Northeast India, a cyclonic circulation over Assam will cause widespread rainfall, with isolated heavy to very heavy showers likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya. Similar weather patterns are expected in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.

A cyclonic circulation over northwest Uttar Pradesh is set to bring scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms across Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha. Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep will see significant rainfall due to strong westerly winds.

Additionally, a Western Disturbance over Jammu will lead to light rainfall and thunderstorms in the Northwest. Dust storms are anticipated in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana-Delhi.

Maximum temperatures exceeding 42°C were recorded in parts of Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, and other states. Severe heatwave conditions are expected in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and several other regions until June 1.
