Sports Ministry Approves Judokas Himanshi Tokas and Shooter for Multiple Events

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) has taken decisive steps to support Indian athletes’ participation in international competitions. In a recent meeting, judokas Himanshi Tokas, Shraddha Chopade, and Asmita Dey, along with shooter Elavenil Valarivan, received approval to represent India on the global stage.

Junior Asian Championship Gold Medallist, Himanshi Tokas, and Junior Oceania Championship Gold Medallist, Shraddha Chopade, are set to compete in prestigious events such as the Grand Slam tournaments in Paris, France; Baku, Azerbaijan; Tashkent, Uzbekistan; and Linz, Austria. Asmita Dey, Junior Asian Cup Gold Medallist, will accompany them to the France Grand Slam in Paris.

Under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), MYAS will cover the athletes’ expenses, including airfare, boarding/lodging, insurance, and local transportation costs for both competitions and training periods. This support aims to alleviate financial barriers and enable the athletes to focus solely on their performance.

In addition to judokas, shooter Elavenil Valarivan’s request to participate in the upcoming ISSF World Cup in Spain was also approved by the MOC. Valarivan will compete under the Ranking Point Only (RPO) category, with TOPS funding covering expenses such as airfare, entry fee, training fee, local transportation, visa, and insurance charges.

The approval of these athletes’ participation reflects MYAS’s commitment to nurturing talent and providing them with the necessary resources to excel on the international stage. By supporting their endeavors, MYAS aims to enhance India’s presence and performance in global sporting events, ultimately contributing to the country’s sporting success and pride.
