Representing the Indore constituency of Madhya Pradesh for three decades, she holds the distinction of being the longest-serving Woman Member of Parliament. Her tenure as Speaker from 2014 to 2019 showcased her adept leadership and commitment to parliamentary democracy.
Sumitra Mahajan’s political journey extends beyond her role as Speaker. She served as a Union Minister of State from 1999 to 2004, overseeing critical portfolios such as Human Resource Development, Communications and Information Technology, and Petroleum and Natural Gas. Additionally, she chaired several key committees, including the Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment and the Standing Committee on Rural Development.
