The 14th edition of Aero India 2023 was inaugurated today by Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, at the Air Force Station in Yelahanka, Bengaluru. With a theme of “The Runway to a Billion Opportunities”, the event is expected to draw participation from over 80 countries and feature more than 800 defense companies, including 100 foreign and 700 Indian companies.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the event in promoting the vision of “Make in India, Make for the World”, highlighting the growing capabilities of the country’s defense industry and the trust that it has earned from the global community.
In his address to the gathering, the Prime Minister stressed the significance of Aero India 2023 being held in Karnataka, which he referred to as the hub of India’s technological advancement. He called on the youth of the state to use their expertise in the field of defense to strengthen the country and create new opportunities for themselves.
The Prime Minister highlighted the changing perception of Aero India, from being “just a show” to a platform that showcases the strength and self-confidence of India. He cited several examples of India’s growing capabilities, including Tejas, INS Vikrant, and advanced manufacturing facilities in Surat and Tumkur, which he said were linked to the potential of a self-reliant India.
The Prime Minister’s words at the inauguration of Aero India 2023 emphasized the importance of the event in showcasing India’s growing defense industry and in fostering partnerships with foreign companies. He also emphasized the role of the youth in strengthening the country and creating new opportunities for themselves through their technological expertise.

In his speech, the Prime Minister noted the increase in defense exports from 1.5 billion to 75 countries in the world and the aim to take it to 5 billion by 2024-25. He called upon the private sector to invest in the defense sector, citing it as a way to create new opportunities both in India and globally. The Prime Minister spoke of India’s agility and quick decision-making, comparing the nation to a fighter jet pilot who is not afraid to soar to new heights.
The Prime Minister also touched upon the ease of doing business reforms in India, which has garnered worldwide attention. He spoke about the improvements made in Foreign Direct Investments in defense and other sectors, as well as the simplification of license-issuing processes and tax benefits for manufacturing units.
The Prime Minister also assured the audience that efforts to strengthen the defense sector will continue to be strengthened. The speech was attended by dignitaries such as the Governor of Karnataka, Chief Minister of Karnataka, Union Minister for Defence, Union Minister for Civil Aviation, and Union Minister of State for Defence.
The Prime Minister’s speech at Aero India showcased the nation’s determination and focus on growth and progress in the defense sector. India’s efforts towards ease of doing business, investment-friendly policies, and commitment to the private sector’s role in growth are clear indications of a bright future for the country in the 21st century.
