Over 700 participants have enthusiastically confirmed their attendance for the two-day National Conclave on Urban Planning, organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The event, set to take place on July 13th and 14th, 2023, at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, will bring together key stakeholders in urban development to share experiences, showcase good practices, and discuss innovative approaches to urban planning. With the involvement of prominent figures from government departments, urban development authorities, academic institutions, and international organizations, the Conclave aims to leverage urban planning tools for sustainable and economically prosperous urban environments.
Bringing Together Key Stakeholders:
The National Conclave on Urban Planning will witness the presence of Principal Secretaries of State Urban Development Departments, Chief Town Planners, State TCP Departments, Urban Development Authorities, and heads of leading academic institutions. This diverse group of participants represents the collective effort to address urban challenges and create well-planned cities for future generations.
Inauguration and Participating Stakeholders:
The event will be inaugurated by Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Petroleum & Natural Gas. Additionally, stakeholders such as GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) and JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) will also be actively participating, highlighting the collaborative nature of urban planning initiatives.
Presentations and Technical Sessions:
Chief Town Planners from State TCP Departments and Urban Development Authorities will deliver 24 presentations, showcasing their respective states’ achievements and urban planning practices. The Conclave will feature four technical sessions, moderated by renowned academicians in the field, covering topics such as Transit-oriented Development, Transferable Development Rights, Local Area Plans and Town Planning Schemes, Affordable Housing, Environmentally Sustainable Development (sponge cities), NCR Plan 2041, and Master Plan of Delhi-2041. These sessions will provide a platform for experts to share insights and foster discussions on critical urban planning themes.
Showcasing Good Practices:
An exhibition will be held alongside the Conclave, featuring projects undertaken by various states, union territories, and urban planning academic institutions. This platform will highlight successful initiatives, including the implementation of Transit-oriented Development in Chennai, Local Area Plans in Indore and Chennai, Town Planning Schemes in Surat and Pune, and Environmentally Sustainable Master Plans in Zero Valley. Urban planning academic institutions will also present projects, such as the formulation of Local Area Plans and Town Planning Schemes for Jaipur and Guwahati by CEPT University, Planning for Eco-sensitive Zones in Mahabaleshwar by the College of Engineering and Pune, Urban Redevelopment and Heritage Conservation by IIT Kharagpur, and Building Resilient and Inclusive Communities by the School of Planning and Architecture in Vijayawada.
Towards a Sustainable Future:
The Conclave aims to leverage urban planning tools to achieve sustainable and well-planned urban development, ultimately strengthening urban economies and generating economic activities. By facilitating the exchange of experiences and insights, the workshop will enable state governments and union territories to draw up a roadmap for implementing urban planning reforms that benefit urban dwellers.
