The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a thunderstorm alert for Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) along with neighboring regions in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. According to IMD’s latest bulletin, the thunderstorms are expected to bring light to moderate-intensity rain, with heavy downpours likely in isolated areas.
Areas likely to be affected include Loni Dehat, Hindon Air Force Station, Bahadurgarh, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Dadri, Gurugram, Faridabad, Manesar, Ballabhgarh in Delhi-NCR; and Gohana, Hansi, Meham, Sonipat, Tosham, Rohtak, Kharkhoda, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Mattanhail, Jhajjar, Farukhnagar, Kosali, Mahendargarh, Sohana, Rewari, and Bawal in Haryana.
In addition, regions in Uttar Pradesh including Baraut, Bagpat, Khekra, Modinagar, Pilakhua, and Sikandrabad, as well as Bhiwari in Rajasthan, are also expected to experience thunderstorm activity.
The IMD has cautioned residents to stay indoors and take necessary precautions during the thunderstorm. Gusty winds with speeds ranging from 30 to 50 kilometers per hour are anticipated, posing potential hazards such as tree damage and power disruptions.
Citizens are advised to avoid venturing out unnecessarily and to secure loose objects outdoors to prevent any potential damage. Commuters are urged to exercise caution while traveling, particularly on roads prone to waterlogging and low-lying areas susceptible to flooding.
The IMD’s alert serves as a reminder for residents to stay informed about weather updates and adhere to safety guidelines issued by local authorities during adverse weather conditions.
