Nikhita Gandhi: Singer Nikhita Gandhi conveyed her profound sorrow and devastation on Saturday following a tragic stampede at her music concert in Kochi, which claimed the lives of four students. The incident occurred at the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), where 64 others sustained injuries, with two in critical condition.
In an Instagram post, Gandhi expressed her condolences, describing the occurrence as “unfortunate.” Her post read, “Heartbroken and devastated by what took place this evening in Kochi. Such an unfortunate incident took place before I could even leave for the venue for the performance. No words are possibly enough to express this profound grief. My prayers go out to the families of the students.”
The stampede was triggered when individuals sought shelter from sudden rain, causing chaos among the crowd. As some rushed to an area for cover, people standing on steps fell, leading to the unfortunate incident, as explained by a senior police official. Additionally, the single entry and exit gate at the venue exacerbated the situation, according to a municipal councilor.
The four students, two girls, and two boys, were declared dead on arrival at the hospital. The injured were promptly transported to Kalamassery Medical College and Kinder Hospital for necessary medical attention.
