UGC-NET June 2024 Exam Cancelled: What Students Need to Know

UGC-NET June 2024 Exam Cancelled: In a significant development affecting over 11 lakh students, the Union Education Ministry has announced the cancellation of the UGC-NET June 2024 examination. This decision comes in the wake of concerns raised by the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding potential compromises in the examination’s integrity.

Reasons for Cancellation: UGC-NET June 2024 Exam Cancelled

The Ministry of Education cited inputs from the I4C indicating vulnerabilities that could compromise the fairness and reliability of the UGC-NET June 2024 examination. This prompted the ministry to take preemptive action to maintain the credibility of the examination process.

Understanding UGC-NET

The UGC-NET, or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test, is a crucial examination determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for roles as assistant professors or for junior research fellowships and assistant professors in universities and colleges across India. Candidates’ eligibility is assessed based on their combined performance in paper I and paper II of the UGC-NET.

Role of NTA

The National Testing Agency (NTA), established as an autonomous body under the Indian Societies Registration Act, of 1860, conducts various entrance examinations for admissions to higher educational institutions. Led by eminent educationist Pradeep Kumar Joshi as Chairperson and IAS Subodh Kumar Singh as Director General, NTA oversees exams such as NEET, JEE, and UGC-NET.

Exam Procedure

Traditionally conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode twice a year (June & December), the UGC-NET June 2024 exam was conducted in pen-and-paper mode on a single day, June 18. This departure from the norm was significant as it aimed to cater to a record number of 11 lakh registered students, reflecting the exam’s critical role in academic and career pursuits.

Future Steps

The Ministry of Education is expected to announce new dates for the UGC-NET June 2024 examination soon. Students are advised to stay updated through official channels regarding the rescheduling of the exam and any further instructions.

This cancellation underscores the ministry’s commitment to upholding the integrity and fairness of examinations crucial to higher education and academic careers in India.
