Union Cabinet Approves Two New Corridors for Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV Project

The Union Cabinet, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its nod for the construction of two new corridors as part of Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV project. These corridors are expected to significantly improve Metro connectivity in the national capital and adjoining areas.

The two corridors approved are:

  • a) Inderlok – Indraprastha: spanning 12.377 km
  • b) Lajpat Nagar – Saket G Block: covering 8.385 km

The total project cost for these two corridors amounts to Rs. 8,399 crore, which will be funded by the Government of India, the Government of Delhi, and international funding agencies.

These corridors, totaling 20.762 km in length, are designed to enhance connectivity across various Metro lines. The Inderlok – Indraprastha corridor, extending the Green Line, will offer interchange with multiple Metro lines including the Red, Yellow, Airport Line, Magenta, Violet, and Blue Lines. At the same time, the Lajpat Nagar – Saket G Block corridor will provide links to the Silver, Magenta, Pink, and Violet Lines.

The Lajpat Nagar – Saket G Block corridor will be constructed as an elevated route and will feature eight stations. Meanwhile, the Inderlok – Indraprastha corridor will encompass 11.349 km of underground lines and 1.028 km of elevated lines, housing a total of 10 stations.

These new corridors will not only improve Metro connectivity within Delhi but also provide enhanced accessibility to regions like Bahadurgarh in Haryana. Additionally, the introduction of eight new interchange stations will significantly enhance interconnectivity among all operational Metro lines.

Construction on these corridors is expected to be completed in stages by March 2026. Presently, the Delhi Metro operates a network of 391 km, comprising 286 stations, and is recognized as one of the fastest-growing Metro networks globally.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) has already commenced pre-bid activities and preparation of tender documents, signaling the beginning of implementation for these crucial infrastructure projects.
