In a momentous ceremony commemorating the 59th Raising Day of the Border Security Force (BSF), Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, presided as the chief guest in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. The event also witnessed the release of BSF’s annual magazine, ‘Borderman,’ marking the dedication and valor of the force.
Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah acknowledged the pivotal decision made by former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, emphasizing the deployment of dedicated security forces for each border. Under this directive, BSF has played a crucial role in securing challenging borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh, demonstrating unwavering commitment in adverse terrains.
From the snowy landscapes of Jammu and Kashmir to the mountains of the North-East, deserts of Gujarat and Rajasthan, marshy areas of Gujarat, and dense forests of Sundarbans and Jharkhand, BSF has stood resilient, thwarting the enemy’s nefarious motives. Shri Shah lauded the force for setting new benchmarks in service and bravery, even contributing significantly to United Nations peacekeeping missions.
Amit Shah asserted that a nation’s development hinges on secure borders, and India’s progress under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has been possible due to the sacrifice, dedication, and bravery of its soldiers. The BSF, beyond protecting borders, imparts a message of discipline to the nation’s youth.
As part of the Raising Day ceremony, 23 soldiers were honored with bravery medals, with 11 receiving the Police Medal For Gallantry, 1 being awarded Jeevan Raksha Padak, and 11 presenting the President’s Police Medal for distinguished service. Shri Shah extended condolences to the families of five martyrs posthumously awarded medals, emphasizing the nation’s eternal pride in their sacrifice.
Amit Shah highlighted the Modi government’s prioritization of border security, emphasizing the importance of security, development, and democratic processes. Substantial investments have been made in strengthening border infrastructure, including railways, roads, waterways, and telecommunication facilities. Prime Minister Modi’s vision integrates security forces into welfare schemes for border villages, fostering both security and public welfare.
Regarding technological advancements, Shri Amit Shah commended BSF for its achievements in anti-drone technology, having shot down more than 90 foreign drones. A Drone and Cyber Forensic Lab in New Delhi further strengthen the force’s capabilities. The Central Government has provided 100 drones for area domination, contributing to border security.
Amit Shah underscored the government’s commitment to eradicating Left Wing Extremism, noting a significant reduction in incidents and affected districts. New camps and increased patrolling have curbed the resources of extremists, leading to successes in critical areas. The Modi government remains resolute in freeing the country from Left Wing Extremism, with 199 new camps opened since 2019.
