Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Address National Symposium on Cooperative Exports

On Monday, October 23, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, will address the ‘National Symposium on Cooperative Exports’ in New Delhi. This significant event is organized by the National Cooperative for Exports Limited (NCEL) and will feature several key highlights.

Key Highlights of the Symposium:

  1. Logo, Website, and Brochure Launch: During the symposium, Amit Shah will officially launch NCEL’s logo, website, and brochure, marking a significant milestone for this newly established organization.
  2. Membership Certificate Distribution: The Home Minister will also distribute membership certificates to NCEL members, acknowledging their contribution and commitment to the cooperative export sector.
  3. Crucial Discussions: The symposium will serve as a platform for in-depth discussions on a wide range of critical topics. These include channeling cooperatives to access export markets, exploring the potential of Indian agricultural exports, and identifying opportunities for cooperatives in the global export landscape.
  4. Promoting Cooperative Exports: NCEL was created in response to Amit Shah’s emphasis on establishing a national-level multi-state cooperative society to facilitate exports within the cooperative sector. This initiative aligns with the Ministry of Cooperation’s overall objective to strengthen the cooperative movement in India.
  5. Targeted Growth: NCEL aims to double its revenue by 2025, from its current level of approximately Rs 2,160 crore. It is working towards achieving this goal by enrolling a significant number of cooperatives under its umbrella, with a focus on agriculture, allied activities, handloom, handicraft items, and more.
  6. Collaboration and Access to Wider Markets: NCEL will bring together cooperative societies at various levels, from primary to apex. These cooperatives, driven by the goal of expanding their exports, are eligible to become members of NCEL. With an authorized share capital of Rs 2,000 crore, NCEL is dedicated to exporting surplus products available within the Indian cooperative sector to international markets.

The symposium’s agenda will feature a presentation by officials from the Ministry of Cooperation, highlighting the various initiatives taken to bolster the cooperative sector. Additionally, the technical sessions will delve into several topics of interest, such as channeling cooperatives for export market linkages, India’s potential in agricultural exports, making India a global dairy hub, and ambitious grain storage plans within the cooperative sector.

The ‘National Symposium on Cooperative Exports’ is expected to draw over 1,000 participants, including NCEL’s cooperative members, representatives from various cooperative sectors, embassy officials, and government representatives from both central and state levels. Furthermore, numerous cooperative members and stakeholders will join the event online, ensuring comprehensive coverage and participation.

NCEL is a collaborative effort of four leading cooperatives: Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF – Amul), Indian Farmers’ Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO), Krishak Bharti Cooperative (KRIBHCO), National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED), and National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC). These entities have joined forces to promote NCEL, contributing to India’s thriving cooperative export sector.
