Hyderabad: In a spectacular inauguration at Begumpet Airport, Hyderabad, the Union Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel, Shri. Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, kickstarted “Wings India 24,” an unparalleled event spanning commercial, general, and business aviation. With the theme “Connecting India to the World in Amrit Kaal: Setting the Stage for India Civil Aviation @2047,” the summit aims to shape the future of aviation in the region.
Addressing the audience, Minister Scindia highlighted the philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbkum,” emphasizing civil aviation’s role in connecting the world as one family. Stressing the sector’s economic significance, he noted its incredible growth in emerging economies, providing substantial benefits in tourism, trade, connectivity, job creation, and support for remote communities.
Reflecting on India’s aviation achievements, Scindia stated, “India is the shining star in the Civil Aviation landscape.” Despite significant growth, he acknowledged that the country remains an under-penetrated market. The Minister projected the number of domestic passengers to reach 635 million by FY 2030, underscoring the need for sustained development.
“Discussing the government’s vision, Scindia outlined measures to create a robust aviation ecosystem, including doubling the number of airports, operationalizing greenfield airports, and enhancing capacity at metro airports. He emphasized the success of the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS-UDAN), promoting last-mile connectivity and transforming neglected airstrips into thriving hubs”.
During the event, several major announcements were made, including the release of a knowledge paper on civil aviation, the launch of UDAN 5.3, and the inauguration of the Airbus-Air India Training Centre. Airbus also entered manufacturing contracts with TATA ASL and Mahindra Aerospace Structures Pvt. Ltd., contributing to the growth of pilots in the industry.
The summit witnessed the inauguration of the GMR School of Aviation, showcasing the commitment to developing skilled professionals in the aviation sector. Notably, Akasa Air made a significant deal, announcing a triple order of 200 aircraft in just 17 months.
As “Wings India 24” unfolds, it promises to be a pivotal moment in shaping the future of civil aviation in Asia, with industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders converging to explore new horizons and foster innovation in this dynamic and vital sector.
