National Highway: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, has given the green light for a significant investment of Rs. 766.42 crore towards the construction and strengthening of various National Highways projects in Goa, aimed at enhancing connectivity and boosting economic growth in the region.
In a recent announcement, Shri Gadkari revealed that a substantial allocation of Rs. 455.50 crore has been earmarked for the construction of a 4-lane flyover extending from MES College Junction to Bogmalo Junction on NH-566. This flyover, spanning a total length of 3.35 kilometers, aims to alleviate traffic congestion and improve connectivity in the area.
Additionally, under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode within the National Highways (Original) framework, a 4-lane Vehicular Underpass (VUP) will be constructed at Queeny Nagar Junction, covering a distance of 1.22 kilometers. These initiatives are poised to enhance road infrastructure and facilitate smoother vehicular movement in Goa.
Furthermore, Shri Gadkari announced an allocation of Rs. 310.92 crore for land acquisition to construct the Cuncolim Bypass, spanning 8.33 kilometers on NH-66 in South Goa district. This bypass aims to expedite the completion of the Mumbai to Kanyakumari Economic Corridor, addressing congestion and accidents in Cuncolim town.
The development of the Cuncolim Bypass is expected to provide improved connectivity to tourist destinations, the South Goa district headquarters, and the capital city of Panaji. Moreover, it anticipates delivering enhanced service levels, significant socio-economic benefits, reduced Vehicle Operating Cost (VOC), and decreased travel time for commuters.
Shri Nitin Gadkari’s approval for these crucial projects underscores the government’s commitment to bolstering infrastructure and promoting sustainable development in Goa.
