Piyush Goyal, the Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha and Union Minister for the Ministry of Commerce and Industry; Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution; and Textiles, inaugurated the 2-day National Workshop on National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) organized by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. The workshop, held in New Delhi’s Convention Hall at The Ashok Hotel, aims to expedite the universal adoption of NeVA by state legislatures for the digital transformation of legislative processes.
Inauguration by Shri Piyush Goyal: NeVA Empowers Legislatures for Efficient Governance
During his speech at the inaugural session, Piyush Goyal emphasized that NeVA would provide legislatures with knowledge and information, leading to time savings and enhanced connectivity among all legislative bodies across the country. He stressed that NeVA would serve as a “One Nation One Application” for India, enabling the sharing of experiences, knowledge, and best practices among legislatures for the betterment of Indian citizens. Shri Goyal urged all state legislatures, regardless of political affiliations, to onboard NeVA at the earliest.
Pralhad Joshi Highlights the Digital Transformation of India’s Legislative Houses
Pralhad Joshi, the Union Minister for the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines, emphasized the transformative impact of the Digital India Mission launched by the Prime Minister. He stated that NeVA is a crucial part of India’s march toward digitalization, aiming to make the functioning of all state legislatures paperless and transform them into Digital Houses. Currently, 21 state legislatures have signed MoUs for the implementation of NeVA, with funds already released to 17 legislatures. Furthermore, nine legislatures are already fully digital and operational on the NeVA platform.
NeVA: Progress, Implementation, and Environmental Benefits
NeVA is a user-focused, decentralized digital platform that offers information and supports the day-to-day operations of legislative bodies. The workshop’s technical sessions focused on the platform’s capabilities, sharing experiences of legislative bodies that have adopted NeVA, the role of the National Informatics Centre (NIC) in the project, and the steps required for successful implementation.
Sh. Gudey Srinivas, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, emphasized the need for all state governments to adopt NeVA on a priority basis. The project’s goal is to create a common platform for all legislative bodies in the country, empowering citizens and strengthening democratic values.
Shri Goyal, Sh. V. Muralidharan on NeVA’s Time and Cost Savings
Goyal highlighted that NeVA would not only save significant costs associated with documentation on paper but also help preserve the environment by reducing paper usage. Sh. V. Muralidharan, Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, applauded India’s digital transformation and stated that NeVA would contribute to saving time and money while making legislative work paperless.
The two-day workshop aims to review the progress made so far in implementing NeVA and expedite its universal adoption by all states and union territories across the nation. The digitalization of state legislatures through NeVA promises to enhance efficiency, connectivity, and transparency in the governance process, ultimately benefiting both the institutions and the citizens they serve.
