Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Keshav Prasad Maurya exudes confidence on Thursday, May 2, asserting BJP’s victory prospects in Amethi and Raebareli Lok Sabha constituencies, regardless of the opposition’s candidates. Amid mounting speculation over Congress’ choices for these key seats, Maurya remains unfazed, emphasizing BJP’s readiness for the electoral battle.
Maurya’s remarks, as quoted by news agency ANI, underscore BJP’s assertive stance in the electoral fray. “No matter who contests – be it from Congress, Yadav family, or BSP – BJP will only win from Raebareli and Amethi,” Maurya asserts, exuding confidence in his party’s electoral strength.
While the Congress has yet to announce its candidates for Amethi and Raebareli, today marks the final day for filing nominations, intensifying the anticipation surrounding these crucial constituencies. With speculation rife that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi may contest from Amethi, the electoral dynamics in these traditional Congress strongholds remain uncertain.
Reflecting on the historical significance of Amethi, it has been a stronghold for the Gandhi family, with Rahul Gandhi representing the constituency from 2004 to 2019, succeeding his father, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Sonia Gandhi also contested from Amethi in 1999 before Rahul took over.
As Amethi gears up for voting in the fifth phase on May 20, the contest assumes greater significance in the political landscape of Uttar Pradesh. With the Congress contesting for 17 Lok Sabha seats in the state as part of its seat-sharing agreement with the Samajwadi Party (SP), the absence of candidate announcements for Amethi and Raebareli adds intrigue to the electoral narrative.
Amidst heightened anticipation over Congress’ candidates, Maurya’s confident assertion underscores BJP’s determination to secure victory in these significant constituencies, setting the stage for a compelling electoral contest in Uttar Pradesh.
