UP Doctor Recruitment: The Medical and Health Department in Uttar Pradesh is embarking on a significant recruitment drive, signaling the addition of 2,532 specialist doctors to the state’s healthcare workforce. In a recent development, the department has forwarded a requisition to the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission for the recruitment process, opening doors for candidates with postgraduate degrees in Medicine (MD and MS).
“Among the specialist doctors sought, 268 positions are earmarked for super-specialty doctors who have pursued courses like DM and MCH. Dr. Raja Ganapati R., the Director (Administration) of the Medical and Health Department, explained that these specialists would be directly recruited as Medical Officers Grade-II. The department currently has 7,240 Grade-II posts, with 3,620 designated for direct recruitment. Out of these, 2,532 positions remain vacant”.
A notable feature of this recruitment initiative is the creation of a super-specialty cadre of doctors, a first for the state. Those appointed under this category will enjoy three additional increments compared to their counterparts when they reach the Medical Officer Grade-Four level.
“To address the shortage of specialist doctors in government healthcare institutions, efforts are underway to fill vacancies in divisional hospitals, district hospitals, community health centers, and primary health centers. Currently, out of the 19,010 doctor positions in the Medical and Health Department, only 11,800 are filled”.
To further support the healthcare system, the retirement age of doctors has been extended from 62 to 65 years. This move is intended to retain experienced medical professionals and ensure continued quality healthcare services.
The upcoming UP Doctor Recruitment drive will encompass various specialties, with 385 positions for gynecologists and obstetricians, 460 for anesthetists, 440 for pediatricians, and 70 for radiologists, among others. This comprehensive approach reflects the state’s commitment to addressing healthcare needs across diverse medical fields.
