UP State Road Transport Corporation’s Ambitious Plan: Bus Ports in Every District

The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) is embarking on a transformative journey to enhance the state’s transportation infrastructure. In a significant move, UPSRTC is all set to establish modernized bus ports in every district of Uttar Pradesh, and this ambitious project is being carried out under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. The aim is to provide commuters with world-class facilities and seamless connectivity across the state.

Expanding Connectivity through Bus Ports

To kickstart this monumental initiative, UPSRTC has already prepared a cabinet proposal for the development of 18 bus ports in 16 districts. These bus ports will serve as state-of-the-art transportation hubs, equipped with modern facilities and services, to enhance the travel experience of passengers.

Successful Pilot Projects and Future Expansion

In the initial phase, UPSRTC selected Prayagraj, Kaushambi, Gomtinagar in Lucknow, and Ghaziabad bus stand as pilot projects for the development of bus ports. The selection of a firm for these pilot projects is nearly complete, and these firms have presented their plans for the construction of the bus ports. These pilot projects serve as a testament to the corporation’s commitment to elevating the quality of transportation infrastructure in the state.

Full Coverage Across the State

Speaking about this ambitious project, Minister of State for Transport with independent charge, Dayashankar Singh, expressed the determination to establish a bus port in every district of the state. Within the next four years, UPSRTC aims to ensure that no district in Uttar Pradesh is without a modernized bus port.

The process of selecting consultant organizations for the remaining districts is already underway, and more than 50 districts are in line to receive their own bus ports. For each district, a comprehensive report will be prepared, taking into account available land and the city’s specific requirements. Following the assessment, the bus ports will be developed under the PPP mode.

Proposed Bus Stands Across Uttar Pradesh

UPSRTC has prepared proposals for various bus ports and stands, including Sahibabad in Ghaziabad, Transport Nagar and Idgah in Agra, Old Bus Stand in Mathura, Kanpur Central (Jhakarkati) in Kanpur, Cantt in Varanasi, Zero Road in Prayagraj, and Amausi Bus Stand in Lucknow.

Additionally, proposals are in place for bus ports at Charbagh in Lucknow, Sohrabgate in Meerut, Rasulabad in Aligarh, Gorakhpur in Gorakhpur, Ayodhyadham in Ayodhya, Satellite in Bareilly, Rae Bareli, and Mirzapur. The plan also includes new bus stands in Bulandshahr and Garhmukteshwar in Meerut.

Investment in New Buses

To further improve transportation services, the Yogi Cabinet recently sanctioned Rs 400 crore for the purchase of 1000 new buses by UPSRTC. This includes the procurement of 826 diesel buses and 125 electric buses, reflecting the corporation’s commitment to sustainable and efficient public transportation.

Volvo Buses on the Horizon

While the corporation currently does not plan to acquire new Volvo buses, it remains open to collaboration with private operators interested in introducing Volvo buses in partnership with UPSRTC. Presently, UPSRTC operates around 34 Volvo buses, contributing to a diversified and modernized fleet.

UPSRTC’s endeavor to establish bus ports in every district and expand its fleet of buses is set to improve connectivity, convenience, and the overall travel experience for the people of Uttar Pradesh. As the project progresses, it promises to play a pivotal role in transforming the state’s transportation landscape.
