In a significant move towards sustainable and eco-friendly transportation, the Uttar Pradesh Transport Corporation is set to introduce 8000 electric buses into its fleet. The corporation plans to procure 3000 AC electric buses, with an additional 5000 buses secured under a contractual agreement. Alongside the electric fleet, the corporation will also welcome two thousand new BS-6 buses.
“During the 247th meeting of the Board of Directors, chaired by Principal Secretary Venkateshwar Lu, key decisions were made to enhance the existing bus infrastructure. The plan includes the refurbishment of buses currently operational at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Workshop and Central Workshop, Kanpur. Additionally, a proposal to modernize 48 bus stations of the Transport Corporation on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in the second phase received approval”.
The meeting, attended by various officials, including MD Masoom Ali Sarwar, Additional MD Pranatha Aishwarya, Special Secretary KP Singh, VK Sonakiya, and Abhishek Singh, marks a strategic move to modernize public transportation in the state.
Recruitment of Women Conductors and Upgradation of Facilities
In a progressive step, the board consented to the recruitment of women conductors in roadways, to be conducted under the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission and Skill Development Mission. However, the reservation of posts for women conductors is yet to be finalized.
“As part of the initiative to cater to the rising tourism in Ayodhya, six Janrath AC buses from the Awadh depot will be deployed in Ramnagari. This decision aligns with the anticipation of increased tourist footfall post the consecration of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple. The move is expected to enhance connectivity and support the surge in tourism in Ayodhya”.
