The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, has laid out an ambitious vision to revolutionize the state’s electricity system. Central to this vision is the commitment to providing an uninterrupted power supply to consumers and addressing their concerns promptly. To achieve these goals, the government is implementing substantial changes to the existing electricity infrastructure.
Strengthening Infrastructure Statewide
The Yogi government is leaving no stone unturned in its quest to enhance the electricity system. To achieve this, several key initiatives are underway. One such initiative is the Reinforcing Distribution System Strengthening (RDSS) program, which aims to bolster the distribution infrastructure across the state. Additionally, a comprehensive business plan is being developed to ensure efficient operations.
Expanding Regional Offices for Better Oversight
Efficiency and swift issue resolution are top priorities for the government. As part of these efforts, the number of regional offices is being increased to allow for quicker and more effective monitoring of the system. This expansion will not only boost operational efficiency but also expedite the resolution of consumer complaints.
Redesigning Electricity Distribution Zones
In a significant move, the Yogi government has decided to redesignate the areas (zones) managed by the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation. Currently, there are 25 zones in operation, but this number will be expanded to 40 zones. Each of these newly created zones will be headed by a chief engineer.
To address specific issues faced by urban areas, new zones are being established to give more attention to major cities. This separation will allow senior officers to provide specialized supervision in both urban and rural areas. Notably, existing zones in several locations will remain unchanged.
Modernization and Quality Enhancement
Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Yogi government is actively implementing the RDSS Scheme to ensure high-quality, uninterrupted power supply while reducing line losses. A substantial action plan, worth Rs 50 thousand crores, for the modernization of the electricity system is also being submitted to the Government of India.
Benefits of Restructuring
The restructuring of electricity distribution areas promises a host of benefits, including improved electricity supply quality, enhanced monitoring, reduced line losses, curbing electricity theft, and expedited problem resolution. Additionally, this initiative will streamline the implementation of RDSS and the rollout of smart metering solutions.
Uttar Pradesh’s CM Yogi government is undertaking significant reforms to transform the state’s electricity system. With a commitment to reliability, infrastructure enhancement, and efficient problem resolution, these efforts aim to provide citizens with a more robust and responsive electricity supply network.
