Uttar Pradesh Breaks Export Records: A Leap in Vegetable and Fruit Exports

Uttar Pradesh, one of India’s most populous and economically vibrant states, has been making remarkable strides in the field of exports. While traditionally known for its traditional goods, the state is now making waves in the global market with a surge in the export of vegetables, fruits, and other food products.

According to data from the Export Promotion Bureau, Uttar Pradesh has witnessed substantial growth in the export of honey, vegetables, fruits, fruit products, grains, and spices over the last seven years. However, this period has also witnessed a remarkable expansion in the export of electrical and electronic products.

Yogi Government’s Impactful Export Policies

The spokesperson of the state government attributed this export surge to the effective export policies implemented by the Yogi Adityanath-led government. Under these policies, the state has gained momentum in exports, encompassing products ranging from agricultural goods to machinery. Notably, exports from Uttar Pradesh have surged 12-fold during Yogi’s tenure, with significant growth recorded in the food sector.

Growing Global Demand for UP’s Produce

The demand for edible oils and minerals from Uttar Pradesh has gained traction worldwide. Sectors such as sugar, textiles, and electrical machinery have experienced substantial growth in the last eight years. However, it’s the remarkable growth in the export of vegetables, fruits, and food items that is particularly noteworthy.

Impressive Export Figures

Data reveals a significant increase in the export of vegetables and tubers, which has grown from Rs 35 crore in the 2014-15 financial year to an impressive Rs 434 crore, marking a twelve-fold increase. Fruit exports from the state have also seen substantial growth, increasing from Rs 13.50 crore in the 2014-15 financial year to Rs 147 crore.

In the last seven years, demand for grains from the state has surged from Rs 2,300 crore to Rs 5,000 crore, indicating a strong global interest in the state’s agricultural produce. Additionally, the export of vegetables, animal fats, and oils has increased from Rs 8 crore to Rs 300 crore.

Traditional Goods and Textile Exports Soar

Uttar Pradesh’s traditional exports, especially silk, have witnessed a remarkable upswing. In the seven-year period, silk exports have increased by an impressive 28 times, with exports amounting to Rs 9.11 crore in 2014-15 and reaching Rs 251.65 crore in 2022.

The state’s textile industry also continues to dominate the export of traditional goods, experiencing remarkable growth. In the last seven years, textile exports have doubled, reaching Rs 12,000 crore from Rs 6,000 crore.
