Uttar Pradesh has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first state in India to introduce a rating system for nursing and paramedical colleges. On this momentous occasion, a comprehensive ranking of 383 nursing colleges and 294 paramedical colleges from both government and private sectors was also unveiled. The launch of this rating system marks a significant step towards enhancing the quality of nursing and paramedical education in the state.
Mission Niramayah: Transforming Healthcare Education:
The rating system and ranking of nursing and paramedical colleges were the key objectives set under the ambitious ‘Mission Niramayah’ campaign launched by the Uttar Pradesh government in October 2022. This flagship initiative aims to revolutionize the healthcare education sector, ensuring the delivery of high-quality training and education to aspiring nurses and paramedical professionals.
Prominent Recognition and Appreciation:
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath commended the efforts of the state government in implementing this unique rating system. CM stated, “Uttar Pradesh takes pride in being the first state in the country to embark on this groundbreaking endeavor, which has also received recognition from Amitabh Kant, the CEO of NITI Aayog.” The appreciation from such a notable figure further underscores the importance of this pioneering step in enhancing nursing and paramedical education.
Ranking of Nursing and Paramedical Colleges:
In the nursing category, the ranking identified 35 colleges in the A category and 53 colleges in the B category, reflecting their exceptional performance. Additionally, 200 colleges were placed in the C category, 80 in the D category, and 15 in the E category. Similarly, for paramedical colleges, 26 were graded as A, 39 as B, 143 as C, 74 as D, and 12 as E. These rankings provide a clear assessment of the colleges’ standing in terms of quality and performance, offering an opportunity for self-improvement and growth.
Enhancing Academic Standards and Accountability:
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, responsible for the health and medical education portfolio, highlighted the purpose of the rating system. He stated that colleges would undergo periodic assessments by third-party assessors to gauge their performance against benchmark parameters. This process will allow colleges to understand their current quality standing and motivate them to enhance their academic standards, enabling them to progress in the rating ladder. The system promotes transparency and accountability, ensuring a continuous focus on quality improvement in nursing and paramedical education.
Advancing ‘Mission Niramayah’:
Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary of Medical Education, emphasized that ‘Mission Niramayah’ aims to elevate the quality of pre-service education programs in nursing and paramedical education. This comprehensive campaign strives to foster transparency and accountability within the healthcare education system, guaranteeing the delivery of high-quality healthcare professionals to the workforce.
