In his address at the ‘NDTV India of the Year Awards 2023-2024’, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar reiterated that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) aims to provide relief to persecuted minorities without affecting existing citizens’ rights. He lamented the failure of some to recognize the Act’s humanitarian aspects, guided by India’s secular values.
Highlighting the media’s pivotal role in shaping social discourse, Jagdeep Dhankhar stressed the importance of an independent and objective media. He urged the media to convey accurate perspectives, cautioning against political interference that could compromise its credibility.
Jagdeep Dhankhar also addressed the issue of misinformation, emphasizing the media’s responsibility as a watchdog. He called for economic nationalism and commended young journalists in tier two and three cities for their contributions.
Reflecting on India’s economic progress, Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed optimism about the nation’s future. He lauded India’s vibrant democracy and transparent governance, underscoring the importance of equality before the law.
The event, attended by notable dignitaries including Sanjay Pugalia, Editor-in-chief of NDTV, and awardees like Amitabh Kant and Amjad Ali Khan, highlighted key issues shaping India’s socio-political landscape.
