Mumbai, September 01, 2023: In a significant event for India’s naval prowess, the Vice-President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, accompanied by Dr. Sudesh Dhankhar, is scheduled to visit Mumbai on September 01, 2023. The Vice-President will serve as the Chief Guest at the launch ceremony of the esteemed warship ‘Mahendragiri,’ currently under construction at the renowned Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL). This event marks a remarkable milestone in the country’s maritime advancements.
‘Mahendragiri’ stands as the seventh stealth frigate born from the esteemed Project 17A of the Indian Navy and holds the distinction of being the fourth of its kind expertly crafted by MDL. The project’s objective is to fortify the Indian Navy with highly capable and technologically advanced vessels, amplifying the nation’s maritime security and defensive capabilities.
The vice president’s presence at the launch ceremony signifies the government’s unwavering commitment to the advancement of India’s naval capabilities. The warship’s name, ‘Mahendragiri,’ is imbued with historical and geographical significance.
