Telangana: A missionary school in Telangana’s Mancherial district, Blessed Mother Teresa High School in Kannepalli village, became the center of controversy after a mob vandalized the premises and manhandled staff members. The incident stemmed from an altercation between the school principal and students wearing religious attire.
Principal Jaimon Joseph, originally from Kerala, questioned some students who arrived at school wearing saffron attire. Upon inquiry, the students explained that they were observing Hanuman Deeksha, a 21-day ritual. The principal requested the students to bring their parents to discuss the matter further.
However, the situation took a drastic turn when a video circulated on social media, falsely claiming that the principal was prohibiting Hindu attire on campus. The misinformation incited a mob, which attacked the school, causing damage to property and intimidating staff members.
Videos circulating online depict saffron-clad individuals chanting religious slogans and breaking window panes while teachers plead for restraint. Police personnel intervened to control the situation and disperse the protesters from the school premises.
The incident prompted authorities to take action, with police registering a case against two staff members, including the principal, under sections related to hurting religious sentiments and promoting enmity between different religious groups.
The unfortunate events underscore the importance of responsible social media usage and the need for community harmony and tolerance. The school, a place of education and enlightenment, should remain free from such divisive actions, emphasizing the values of peace, respect, and understanding among all communities.
